September 1913, over 20,000 spectators watch Leeds City’s 5-1 win over Bradford (Park Avenue).

Not seen these pictures before. During the big freeze of 1963, Leeds United played a friendly against Bradford (Park Avenue) at the greyhound stadium on the other side of Elland Road, as featured in the Groundtastic magazine here. Dick Kerrs Ladies also played France there.

Land is purchased on the Morley side of Elland Road allowing the expansion of the enclosure inc. a new stand holding 4,000 spectators. The stand would be 90 yrds long, with dressing rooms, baths, directors rooms and a covered running track, along with the pitch being rotated.

1929 Football Association Rules forbid the playing of football on Sundays. Any person playing a game of football on a Sunday would not be recognised by the Association. Games were played on Christmas Day but players or clubs should not feel compelled to play on this day.

The South Stand at Elland Road pre boxes, the now demolished houses at the bottom of Wesley Street just in sight through the gap in the stands.

Harry Bromage, Leeds City v West Brom 1907. Derby born Bromage kept goal 143 times for City, along with playing for Derby Constitutional, Derby County, Burton United, Doncaster Rovers and Bentley Colliery.

Leeds United’s Freddie Goodwin shaking hands with Dennis Law on Laws debut for Man City, 1959. Leeds United win 4-3. Goodwin, signed from Man United made 120 appearances for Leeds scoring 2 goals before joining Scunthorpe United.

A fair sprinkling of Trinitarians were amongst the crowd of 8000 at Elland Road to watch Leeds City draw 0-0 with Gainsborough Trinity. Players were described as struggling to keep warm with Croot bursting the side netting for Leeds but the game was described as unexciting.
