Check out this new preprint from the lab led by @JunjieXu15. It's been amazing watching Junjie uncover this story in lab the last few years.

New preprint 🎇! 🧵about @JunjieXu15's exciting work on another retrotransposon derived Gag-like gene that has ALSO retained the ability to make beautiful virus-like capsids! 5 years ago we showed that Arc forms endogenous capsids and an obvious Q /1 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

when “Democracy was on the ballot”… every other time during America’s past… There isn’t a single historical example of a majority of white voters choosing democracy. Never. Start there.

I'm loving the eLife publication model discussion. It seems to me that the change improves the journal publication model while not addressing (and maybe exacerbating?!) the structural biases that exclude minoritized groups.

She had me in the first half.

To my followers: do better

QUICK: before you have a hot take, ask yourself if you’re accidentally playing into the plan of jerks who want us to fight amongst ourselves for the scraps

Trying to tell the lab about how IACUC day is like 'Omar coming' from The Wire, and none of them know what I'm talking about, saying shit like 'I was 4 when that came out'

The belief that lack of malicious intent makes it impossible for harm to result from your actions generally guarantees that it will.

Most 90 degree days in SLC in 2022. Last 6 years are 4 of the top 5. It seems like it's getting hotter more frequently, too bad scientists haven't been able to develop a model to explain this phenomenon.

While looking through climate data from 2022 thus far, we realized that in addition to a record number of 100° degree days being reached, we also set a record for the number of 90° days. #utwx

This makes sense to me.

If Saudi Arabia, one of the worst violators of human rights in the world, wants to partner with Russia to jack up US gas prices, it can get Putin to defend its monarchy. We must pull all US troops out of Saudi Arabia, stop selling them weapons & end its price-fixing oil cartel.

Of course my FFELs are privately held...

I can’t explain it but the energy lately is “everyone is losing it” in a way we haven’t seen since 2020.

Really fun reviewing this preprint as a lab.

Thanks to @ArcadiaScience for sponsoring our #PreprintCommmentClub! We covered this interesting preprint from @GoshenInbal, comments to follow. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Since retirement, I have been lucky to avoid stealing millions of dollars from the poorest people in my state.

This is really very serious, but also its very funny that we live in a world where an ex-president thinks you declassify documents like Michael Scott thinks you declare bankruptcy.

Isn't this kidnapping?

NEW: We can confirm 50 migrants were flown to Martha's Vineyard and are being helped at a church. The men, women & kids said they didn't know where they were. And Florida Gov Ron DeSantis told Fox he sent them as part of his "relocation program for illegal immigrants." (more)

Its really concerning that the Chief Justice of the United States doesn't understand this connection. It shows a naiveté to the point of incompetence. I've thought him to be relatively smart, but I was obviously wrong about that.
