Kinda nuts that the company named "Industrial Light and Magic" is not the Dutch photolithography company that everyone depends on to enchant their thinking sand
It's interesting how in China, if you're successful in running a small city you get a big city to run; whereas in the US the upward mobility for a successful mayor is pretty limited. With rural/urban divides, even statewide offices are hard.
Can’t believe it wasn’t cohere that came up with this
Our solution is simple: maximizing the probability of [Sorry] tokens at every position during response generation. This enables the model to learn the ability to transition from potential harm to safety refusal throughout the sequence. [4/n]
"When the consuls had quieted the tumult, Vindicius was brought out by the orders of Valerius, and the accusation stated, and the letters were opened, to which the traitors could make no plea. Most of the people standing mute and sorrowful, some only, out of kindness to Brutus,…
Yes! Distributed programming, too. Coordination is the fundamental performance and scalability bottleneck in systems of all scales. The bad news? It's getting worse, and has been for the whole history of computing: dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.114…
Seems like the most important part of any multi-threaded/concurrent/parallel programming is trying to avoid any kind of synchronization for as long as possible

My review of @danwwang's new book in @thetimes. Probably the best China book of the year thus far. Free link in next tweet.
At @modal we've built every layer of the AI infra stack from scratch — from filesystems and networking to our own async queues and multi-cloud GPU orchestration. I sat down with @narayanarjun from @amplifypartners to go into depth on all of this, including the fun ways the…
What does @modal do? How does it work? What's different about AI infra? Why did we throw out Kubernetes and Docker built our own infra stack from scratch? @AmplifyPartners wrote this article about a lot of the gory details under the hood of Modal – link in 🧵
tempted to try to get a job at openai so i can fix the "delete a share link and create a new one" bug and quit. (bug is on the desktop client on mac)

I had a great time talking to Ben and Will about software testing and validation at AWS. In this wide-ranging hour we talk deterministic simulation testing, fuzzing, formal methods, the history and future of testing, and much more.
How do you get the entire tech industry to rely on your infrastructure? @MarcJBrooker who's been there since damn near the beginning, tells the story of how @awscloud built their legendary levels of correctness and became the foundation of much of the internet. Listen now, on…
The nice thing about regional flights is they're a great complement to the soon-to-be-completed California high speed rail, perfect for servicing lower demand inland routes (e.g. Bakersfield to Merced)
Today, Los Angeles and the Bay Area will see 130 flights in both directions, equivalent to a plane departing every 6.5 minutes for 18 hours a day. Hard to argue it's not a perfect candidate for fast trains.
lmaoooo zuck has been Nat-ified. plain text times new roman now going to hit mainstream corporate america like a bomb
I'm going to be holding a free remedial calculus class for NYC area fitness instructors. By the end of the class everyone will understand that lowering the incline from a positive value to a smaller positive value does not constitute "running downhill".
