Today in one London Crown Court trial dates of May and July 2029 are being listed as earliest “Court can offer”. Last week trial dates of up to October 2029 were offered. Successive Governments, this included, even now refuse to set targets by which to start or conclude trials.

Today I learnt that Woolwich Crown Court has set a trial date for October 2029. That appears to be the furthest away yet.

This week, I had my first criminal trial where we used a court ordered Jamaican Patwa interpreter for my Jamaican client. It took a lot of persuasion, but I argued for his language rights under ECHR Article 6 (the right to a fair trial). Particularly for when giving evidence. 🥳

I’d like to once again congratulate the criminal justice system on prosecuting and solving every single crime in the entire universe such that they could turn their attention to prosecuting this 81 year old with his walking frame. Well done everyone. Keep up the marvellous work.
