morally obligated to take care of Reddit-based 3rd parties, but you are kind of obligated not to hurt your own users, or at least pretend not to. And the facade is down here. You have your other revenue streams. You don't *have* to leverage telemetry to collect user data (4/?)

Trying to squeeze more money out of API users isn't inherently problematic (though, in practice, it generally is), but deliberately using API pricing to kill 3rd party clients for no better reason than to collect more telemetry data is anti-user. You might not be morally (3/?)

The solution to that isn't to bully alternatives to your 1st party app (and other API users, upon which the bulk of your subs rely) with prohibitive pricing. The solution is to make your 1st party app less bad. (2/?)
