Veronique Proulx: @cme_mec uses a multi stakeholder process to find consensus on the policy recommendations needed to responsibly advance tech adoption.
Why is it easier for Canadian robotics OEMs to export than to sell at home? 1) You don't have to convince them of the value of robotics - they already know it. 2) cash subsidies and high labour costs create demand among foreign end users - they are looking to Canada for solutions
Demographics is a key driver of robot adoption. Countries with aging populations have little choice but to adopt, and high adopters like Japan and Korea are leaders for this reason. Looking at population data, Canada, US and EU will soon have little choice either.
Robot adoption in Canada used to be dominated by auto manufacturing but that is changing
robotics startups can play in multiple application areas before they find their core market. From assistive to medical to agri to industrial Charles Deguire @KinovaRobotics shares his story about the importance of robot adoption and the key role early adopters like unis play
SMEs - cash strapped by raw material inflation - will adopt tech when they feel they don't have a choice : Veronique Proulx @cme_mec provides data and insights on the challenges Canadian manufacturers face in the competitive marketplace
The Economist ranks Canada as 5th in Automation Readiness but a adoption could be higher. Pablo Molina @Avidbots Christy Michalak @NGen_Canada Veronique Proulx @cme_mec and Charles Deguire @KinovaRobotics at the 2023 Canadian Robotics Symposium panel on Canada's opportunity
Are their jobs for robotics graduates in Canada? Audrey Boucher-Genesse from @USherbrooke tells us that the question most asked by industry partners is: "how soon are your students graduating?!"
Paul Mitten from @CompusultLtd on training robotics talent: more training in ROS, more interdisciplinary collaboration, more training opportunities in outdoor environments, since so many of our applications in Canada are outdoors
What do trainees want in their robotics education? More hands on projects in the class room, more internships and real world experience.
Is Canada doing enough to develop the right robotics talent? #canadianrobotics 2023 symposium @brandonjdehart Chelsea Elliot, Andrey Boucher Genesse
