I think this is true, but I also think that it's a recent phenomena. With the exception of that authoritarian edge that has always existed, the left has historically been much broader than it is now.

I'm slowly listening to the #TerryPratchett novels in order, decades after I first read them. I've just finished Small Gods. It was my favourite the first time round, and is my favourite so far this second time round.
Finally finished #Borderlands4 main campaign. The Arjay story finished badly, and the Lilith guarding the end of time stuff made no sense. Overall, OK. I preferred 3, TBQH. Couldn't find good guns, so with the matched levelling, we were back in bullet sponge territory.
The entire community ecosystem (bits, subscriber donations) is built in a way that encourages parasocial relationships. People throw thousands of dollars at streamers and then get upset when they are deprived of the relationship they think they've purchased.
