...the computer that most certainly is not an AI and probably-wouldn't-be-allowed-to-be-one; the possibility of a mis-jump and what happens if you do; a little hint of Virus maybe; and the mission to look for mysterious #black_ships-reported-in-the-void-between-stars.

The plot references complex interplanetary societies; competing factions; experimental systems that got stuck onto a rustbucket because it's expendable; the submarine-like feel of ship operations; political overtones coming from well over the characters' place.

Several classic (#Traveller and scifi) storylines and tropes are here. The young noble whose family bought him his commission (hey, at least he survived character generation); the starship that's not in great shape; the privateer-like mission; the fading pocket empire.

While seemingly taking pains to avoid copying any Traveller TTRPG series IP, the storyline is as much #Traveller as any Gregory P. Lee, Swycaffer, or Chadwick "not Traveller... but it is" story.

I happened to watch Voyage of the Chimera, an indie SF movie a while back - and while it was clearly a budget work of love, it was also incredibly oldschool scifi, with details right out of a #Traveller adventure.

I want it to be more like Pwn Stars: "Best we can do is limited indemnity."

Starting to wonder if this temple-contact thermometer is actually a device that reads the mind and suggests an FM station.
