I kinda wish I was born in the 1980s so I could figure out some of the early CMOS circuits as a grad student

new on the blog: the Reinforcement Learning hype train is in full swing. but why hasn't RL enabled AI models to significantly improve at chip design? well, probably because modern EDA tools are too slow to build good RL environments. but that could be fixed soon... ⬇️

There's no way a thermoelectric cooler (presumably for regulating thermals to keep microring thermal tuning feasible) was a necessary design choice

Ok without any irony or exorbitant praise, The Art of Doing Science and Engineering is a great book. But it’s my opinion that you can only really appreciate the book as it is: aka history/memoir of math/signal processing concepts. If you want to read the book, then look up the…

We should strive, as a species, to evolve to get rid of teeth. We could also potentially get smarter if we find an alternative way to intake calories without chewing, so it's a win-win.

PCI link bus designs are incredibly complex. Standard FR-4 PCB material is basically at its limit. Every year it's harder to keep up with the new standards. At what point do we flip the architecture on its head... GPU as the motherboard, CPU as the peripheral?
