analog ic/photonics design, grad student, committed to the bit
I kinda wish I was born in the 1980s so I could figure out some of the early CMOS circuits as a grad student

new on the blog: the Reinforcement Learning hype train is in full swing. but why hasn't RL enabled AI models to significantly improve at chip design? well, probably because modern EDA tools are too slow to build good RL environments. but that could be fixed soon... ⬇️

EXTREMELY MASSIVE KICAD NEWS!!! Remember design blocks? Their PCB equivalent has been added to KiCad nightly!

The GloFo SiPho nodes are differentiated from Tower by being trash.
read the first 80 pages of Wilden's Grammar of Old Tamil on my flight last weekend much of the Sangam nature & love poetry feels quite east-asian-coded, unique in the Indian context. will do a Classical Tamil session at Sanskrit Reading Night soon. some highlights 🧵

Terry Tao almost failed out of his PhD for playing too much Civ. Happens to the best of us…literally 😂
Monoco’s theme has been stuck in my head for the past 5 days help
There's no way a thermoelectric cooler (presumably for regulating thermals to keep microring thermal tuning feasible) was a necessary design choice
Ok without any irony or exorbitant praise, The Art of Doing Science and Engineering is a great book. But it’s my opinion that you can only really appreciate the book as it is: aka history/memoir of math/signal processing concepts. If you want to read the book, then look up the…

Ok fr I’m not a big JRPG guy but this genuinely has one of the best depictions of grief out of any game ever
What’s with Vietnam, Serbia, and Egypt and having extremely smart chip designers
One of my friends is interviewing for Anduril, does anyone have advice for him?
We should strive, as a species, to evolve to get rid of teeth. We could also potentially get smarter if we find an alternative way to intake calories without chewing, so it's a win-win.
PCI link bus designs are incredibly complex. Standard FR-4 PCB material is basically at its limit. Every year it's harder to keep up with the new standards. At what point do we flip the architecture on its head... GPU as the motherboard, CPU as the peripheral?
