Hey #kamloops devs, come hang out with us next week (Wed Oct 18) and learn about how we used public data to map millions of wildfire hotspots. RSVP: meetup.com/kamloops-devel…
We've made ALL the hotspot data available on a timeline on a map. This means you can very quickly see the hotspot timelines for any #wildfire in Canada (and even animate through each day). Still lots of things to work out but it's an good enough state for folks to explore.
We just launched fire hotspot timelines in Lens. You can now view the entire 2023 hotspot history for all of Canada. You can even interactively explore the timeline and replay any point in time. E.g. here's the timeline for the Bush Creek East #wildfire. lens.pathandfocus.com
This has been an interesting new feature. We were originally going to use the raster layers, but they perform slower than we'd like. So instead we figured out how to get the polygons out. What does this mean? Faster. Here's the BC Gov map zooming in and out.
We just added BC evacuation data to lens.pathandfocus.com. You can now see hotspots and any evacuations in the same view. It's also very fast.
Here's an animation of the Donnie Creek wildfire in BC from May 11 - July 4. This shows some pretty staggering growth using the m3 hotspot data from @CWFIS #bcwildfire
We've updated our map tool (more updates coming). You can now create an image of what your looking at to share... you can also share the URL of your view too. E.g. here is a view hotspots over the long weekend in Canada (maps.pathandfocus.com/?zoom=3.438697…) #canadawildfires
Today we celebrate all the women on our team and in our communities who lead, innovate, and elevate our potential. We wouldn't be where we are with out the contributions from our team of mostly women.
