If we ban the #DomesticFlights the investment in #RailCapacity could be in a 140mph route. That could have tighter curves that go around rather than through some of the sensitive sites like ancient woodland. We also need to travel less and fix buses' image problem.

Nope. Look at domestic flight numbers, trips between cities by road + rail journeys for TOTAL journeys, its not an insignificant volume. We need as much as possible to #ModalShift to rail, on that I'm sure we agree. To achieve that we need #RailCapacity that #HS2 delivers. 1/2.

#HS2 is the best way forward to maximise #RailCapacity, you take the most capacity hungry trains (long distance high speed), putting them together on a dedicated route; then older lines such as #WCML, #MML & #ECML can have more #LocalTrains and #RailFreight. #RIS2 needs focus.

@RobDarlison on a rant again. Yes, things have gone wrong, and lessons need learnt but you've got all the wrong hashtags on it; #HS2 is a good project, it allows for #ModalShift by increasing #RailCapacity. Why not focus your energies on more pressing #RIS2 or #InfillingBridges?
#RailCapacity is a continuing issue; we can only solve it by adding more capacity. Options are #NewRailways or #RailUpgrades, upgrades will take much longer and have much more disruption, new railways are a better solution as are faster to implement with less railway disruption.
