I know everyone in the online paleontology community and their mother knows this fossil at this point, but I don't think we appreciate how insane it is that there was an actual, real predator that BIT OFF THE HORNS OF ITS PREY. WHILE IT WAS ALIVE. #FossilFriday
A large theropod (probably tyrannosaur) track from Nose Mountain, Alberta shows the fourth digit twisted such that half of the toe was folded underneath the rest. They ask you how you are and you just have to say that you're fine when you're not really fine. #FossilFriday
For #FossilFriday, we have a fossil from our editor Masaya Iijima. This is specimen XM 12-1558 from Xinhui museum, Guangdog, China. It belongs to Hanyusuchus, a >6 m crocodylian rendered extinct only a few hundred years ago in south China, likely due to habitat loss & hunting 🐊

Haven’t done a proper #FossilFriday in ages. But take a look at another archaeocete from Peru. Looks like any other average basilosaurid, except that this lad has a stupidly young age that you will not believe.

#goodquestion 4 #molluscmonday , hjopefully answered till #Fossilfriday
Ok: How did ancient molluscs found form shells when carbon dioxide was 1200+ PPM & ocean acidity in Cretaceous period, etc was far greater than now? Did they pay extra tax?
So I found this rock with three fossilized bubbles. Ancient air. One bubble was opened. After shaking out the dirt, I noticed there was a fossilized cephalopod in the bubble. I noticed the resemblance to calamari. Then I watched an @dark5tv video on oil pit squid… #FossilFriday

See those little side points on fossil shark teeth? They’re cusplets. They helped grip and cut small, slippery prey. Paleontologists use their size and shape as ID clues—different species had different cusplets, so one tooth can reveal which shark swam those seas. #FossilFriday
#FossilFriday Alamotyrannus, or is it? To make a long story short, Alamotyrannus is a chimera. It's "holotype", ACM 7975, was distinct from the actual Ojo Alamo material. The authors plan to rename it “#Denazinosaurus sicarius." While the Ojo Alamo will be #Atroxicarius eversor.
