Its amazing to me that significant aspects of hyperbolic geometry could be easily understood if classical geometers had taken the idea that circles are complex points of x^2+y^2=1 more literally.

This looks like a classic math paradox: the red area under the curve y=4/x (or similar hyperbola) from x=1 to infinity is infinite, even though the diagram makes it seem finite due to the asymptotes. Cool puzzle!
