A1: Set 3, 6 --> (3 x 5) + (3 x 1) = (3 x 6) so 15 + 3 = 18. Second way. 6 doubled + 1 more group of 6. 12 + 6 = 10 + 8 = 18. #MathCollabChat

SS6: I notice the student began by thinking about 5 boxes and scaled up to 15. I wondered why the student added 50s if he knew that 5 boxes was 55. I see the "5s" were added back later. I guess it is easier to add 50s and 5s than add 55s. Way to think! #MathCollabChat
A2: I think the samples started off with very direct modeling, then we started to see more abstract thinking and equations, even some decomposition. By the last sample, S was leveraging what they knew about whole numbers to reason about fraction of a whole number. #MathCollabChat
