They tend to use the 3rd party because rolling your own turns out to be insanely complicated due to a lot of chicken and egg situations. But still I see them failing to implement in in a consistent way that actually blocks what should be blocked and gives the user choice.

OK, but what other freaking choice do we have? A third-party is not happening people that keep talking about it on Twitter will never actually do anything to that because they just sit on their ass and complain all day.
The issue isn't 3rd party apps but just memory in general. There are various ways you can access memory and then read and write the values back to the game to make something occur. You can "hook" into a function to make a typical procedure execute custom scripts/code.
and i find it genuinely hilarious that a game made by valve, to play it fairly, you have to install a 3rd part client to get better anti cheat. instead of it just working in the game from the get go, actually laughable game.
And to clarify, this is assembly code taken from third party .DLLs and .EXEs. I literally wouldn’t be able to do this on my own
The third party is the node operator you connect to…. The node *could* log all address requests and IP addresses. So you are trusting someone else with your privacy when you use someone else’s node.
