How to play the long game: Don’t worry about being the best. Worry about being the best at getting better. Don’t aim to be consistently great. Aim to be great at being consistent. Ignore hacks, trends, and fads. Focus on nailing the basics over and over again. Sleep at night.
This also applies to just about everything. Trying harder often = Forcing, tightening up. Great performance often occurs when we have done the work, but let it happen. We stop forcing and allow our skill to take over.

The best athletes learn to listen to their bodies. To understand what each feeling/sensation is communicating. Any gadgets they use are meant to aid this process. Amateurs often get this backward. They tune in to the gadget in place of their internal signals.
Proud of long term coaching client @HilaryShirazi! She nudged the quality of her training to a higher level (harder long runs, primarily), but, mostly, she hasn't dropped the ball. Consistency is THE magic bullet for year over year gains.

If you’re a collegiate female athlete or HS athlete, reach out to some older pro runners who have been in the sport for years. Missing periods isn’t normal. Getting body fat % tests isn’t normal. Coaches and adults in positions of power need to be held accountable.
