Thinking and working at the intersection of GIS, software, and bicycle shops.

As I look around the internet and find people who have excelled in their vocation; I feel senses of awe, belittlement, and inspiration all at the same time. So many great people out there.

Recently I released the Near Miss Record - New York City - nycnearmissmap.com - an interactive map that collects and distributes comments on near miss traffic incidents. Please have a look and share your thoughts! @NYCBikeLanes @nycBikeCounter #NYC @NYCDOTProjects @NYC

I've released cycleosm - a python library to extract bicycle infrastructure data from Open Street Map. It's simple to use and I'd love to hear your thoughts! @OSM @openstreetmap @OpenStreetMapUS @openstreetnews #OSM #OpenStreetMap pypi.org/project/cycleo…

The latest addition to OSMExtract includes new features to extract and standardize bike facility information from OSM PBFs. Read more here: urbandatacyclist.com/2023/02/11/ext… @OSM @OSMScotland @openstreetmap @OpenStreetMapUS @openstreetnews #OSM #OpenStreetMap #DataScience #dataengineering

Just released v2 of TinySDF, my ~1.2kb browser-side SDF font generator (useful for rendering crisp scalable text in WebGL) — now faster, with nicer API and ESM-only entry point github.com/mapbox/tiny-sdf

It's been a while, but I just posted a new How-To on measuring road network centrality (and what that means) among #bikeshare trips in #WashingtonDC using #pgRouting, #PostGIS, and #PostgreSQL! Let me know what you think! urbandatacyclist.com/2020/04/18/how…

Question to anyone interested in open data and transport / movement: do you know of any good open ✈️ / 🐦 trajectory datasets? Typical GPS traces aren't so good for plotting in 3D. Heads-up @espinielli, any ideas? Giving movingpandas by @underdarkGIS + trip by @mdsumner a spin.

Public service announcement: Whenever someone claims something can’t be done by bike, hit us up for some “stock footage”. The Dutch are probably doing it on a scale—and with an effortlessness—they couldn’t fathom. Their lack of imagination shouldn’t result in a lack of action.

Exciting for next week where I'll be more involved than I ever have been with building cities and trails that are safe and attractive for riding bikes. I'm excited to talk about bike… instagram.com/p/BsdyUBqH3gY/…
