"Ultimately, for those of us on the decidedly non-trivial end of the software spectrum, complexity is the devil. And, sadly, both optimization and flexibility are indirect tools of Satan." More life lessons: shawnw.me/2Yd3Et7
Did you know you can run 'sp_help' quicker by highlighting the table and pressing Alt+F1?
This is an old, old argument, but I really prefer a codebase organized around features or capabilities rather than by technical layers (Views/Controllers/Models). Especially for larger applications

Agree 100%. I've seen engineering teams & products fall apart b/c of ambitious developers having new tool fever, building a Jenga architecture around it, not caring if teammates are trained in them, and then leaving the pile of poop behind with a shiny new resume for a big raise
This is by way of a confession, because for at least 20 years I've been obsessively refactoring software to reduce duplication, and I'm finally starting to understand that it's not *always* the right thing to do. Or at least that you have to take other costs into account.
More and more I’m coming to think that backlogs are bad things. Too many teams are so focused on burning through the backlog that they loose track of the fact that the whole point of short cycles is to get feedback, and that feedback may render the entire backlog worthless.

A lot of developers asked how I was generating the @ConcatenateConf tags automatically during registration. I had to write about in a more detailed approach. Feel free to go wild with it. I would love to see what more conferences can make out of the idea: cloudinary.com/blog/automatic…
do not have an incentive to implement simplified ones.
Wrap your console.log arguments in an object literal to print the variable name along with its value. console.log(isLoggedIn) console.log({ isLoggedIn }) Still one of my favorite tips from @wesbos. So simple but effective 💪

The business world is obsessed with the language of war. Companies don’t "earn marketshare", they “conquer the market". Conquer! They don’t just serve their customers, they "capture" them. Capture! What an unhealthy mindset. #ItDoesntHaveToBeCrazyAtWork
