I wrote a guide on using our challenges as foundations for full-stack portfolio projects. Because our challenges are design-led, anyone can use any tech stack to complete them. But many people only see them as front-end projects. Hopefully, this guide can change that!
Many people don't know this, but Frontend Mentor challenges work great as full-stack project foundations. Here are 12 project ideas with the designs already prepared. You add the backend. 🧵
Taking the "hard" path and committing to building projects is the best decision any learner can make. We see so many people join our community who have multiple tutorials under their belt, but have never built a project on their own. It's not easy, but it gets the best results!
Many people come to us who've completed tutorials but struggle to build anything on their own. They know syntax but freeze when facing a blank editor. @_mattstuddert wrote about why this happens and what actually helps...
Showcasing how you work with AI assistants is crucial, even for juniors. Showing you're an "AI-native" junior might even give you an edge with certain companies. This approach below is a good way to build your skills using AI assistants while also learning the fundamentals 👇
Employers will expect you to work with AI tools in your day-to-day workflow. But, how do you balance learning the fundamentals while also gaining experience working with AI? Here's a fun experiment for your next Frontend Mentor challenge...
Now this is a helpful update 👏
New in @ChromeDevTools! Debug an app's full performance trace with Gemini! After recording a trace, you can now chat with Gemini about the entire trace, related Performance insights, and even connected field data - all without needing to select specific context beforehand!
Tutorial hell → building projects without tutorials → professional developer. I love reading stories like Toba's. Project-based learning isn't easy, but it works.
Ever feel like you're just copying code from tutorials without really learning? Toba was there. His first technical interview exposed it. He wrote about what happened next—including a layoff and how he rebuilt. frontendmentor.io/articles/escap…
Another serious portfolio piece for anyone wanting to impress employers ✨
We've just launched a new PREMIUM challenge! 🚀 Build a fully-functional bookmark manager—perfect for your portfolio! You can create it as a frontend-only project or go full-stack and add user authentication. More details 👇

I can't take this seriously when this is their front-end. Don't listen to the ragebait.
AI-native juniors are way more than "entry-level" these days. They're the fastest to adapt and can already build complex projects/features. I look forward to the day when these companies see the unbelievable value in hiring junior engineers again.
Many of companies have slowed or stopped hiring entry-level engineers. Some do this assuming AI tools might be as good as junior engineers soon. GitHub builds just these tools and is hiring more entry-level engineers than ever before. Why? CEO @ashtom explains:
I wouldn’t be surprised if this happening in companies everywhere right now
Feature idea: Companies using our hiring platform can use our advanced and guru-level challenges with candidates during pairing sessions 🤔 Enough complexity to challenge candidates even if they’re using LLMs.
Btw not saying take home exercises are the way to hide with AI tools - all I am saying it’s an open secret many takehomes have “AI honeypots” in them It’s a bandaid for now. Live pairing in a setting when devs can (and are expected!) to use AI tools to build ambitious projects…
