New from me at TVO: Green P Delenda Est. tvo.org/article/analys…

I've long complained that there are too few think tanks in Canada. Anvesh Jain makes the compelling case that we need more Canadian think tanks in the US, too. open.substack.com/pub/theline/p/…

When a man claims that men don't like educated women, it reveals nothing about men in general and everything about that particular man's status.

Imagine seething with rage because I posted about getting my PhD, meanwhile I’m sitting in my beautiful office doing what I love all day ✨

One reason cities are so focused on “affordable housing” is they have regulated out of existence the naturally occurring cheap housing options which once kept people out of homelessness

Leftists antisemites be like: I’m not an antisemite but nothing is antisemitism so talking about antisemitism is proof that the Jews, towards whom I am not antisemitic, are a bunch of liars, so why are they surprised at the antisemitism that they deserve but doesn’t exist?

When Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World slipped into cinemas twenty-two years ago this very day, it did something that Hollywood almost never does: it treated its audience as if they possessed both a pulse and a brain. Peter Weir, that sly Australian magician who…

Proposals like “freeze the rent” or a 50-year mortgage are acknowledgments that we’re failing to address the real issue: we’re not building enough homes of different types and price points to meet demand. Until we fix supply, we’ll keep treating symptoms instead of causes.

It’s worth saying that @anotherglassbox deserves immense credit as a citizen-advocate for progress on neighbourhood retail. While I still think we are too restrictive and limited in geographic scope, we must celebrate progress. I also think it’s a demonstration of how young…

My one qualm with this article is that I if anything I should be credited with reinvigorating or championing interest. I got mad about Finch store’s situation, replies from followers keyed me into EHON’s existing neighbourhood retail push, and I went from there.

We're happy to announce that we're looking for a volunteer to lead our advocacy efforts for TTC Streetcars. Our streetcars are some of the slowest in the world, and on time performance was just 61% last month. As our streetcar lead, you will have the responsibility of: 1/3

Canada already has a 2 tier healthcare system, and it’s divided into the people that know doctors and the people that do not.

This is extreme (and moving), but it isn’t total one-off. Genuinely I navigate the system here by asking friends and family who are doctors, nurses, and pharmacists what I should do and then doing that. It would be scary if I didn’t have insider knowledge.

The vast majority of Toronto city councillors (even many “progressives”) have become totally pro-status quo and anti-good things. Vibrant neighbourhood retail, lots of new housing, reliable local transit - these should all be progressive priorities. The status quo is failing.

Shan moves to exclude 3 streets in his ward. He worries the retail spaces created won't just be small shops selling ice cream to locals, but things like "beef patties that are so popular that people from the 905 will come to get it." That'll just add to traffic problems, he says.

This is classic Fulop Thought. The development status quo in many big cities means that the existing developers are essentially lobbyists working the highly discretionary system. Widespread upzoning/moving to by right development is pro-competitive and new developers emerge.

An absolutely crucial point expressed brilliantly. The most meaningful reforms won't be raised in a business roundtable, because the most meaningful reforms create businesses that don't exist yet.

One of the best things you can do to help your landlord is block new housing in your neighborhood. Anti-housing activists are just pro-landlord activists.
