I just watched the full April 25, 1987 Presidential Address by Ronald Reagan and the full version is actually far more supportive of free trade and against tariffs than the short clip in the Canadian ad. Watch it for yourself youtu.be/5t5QK03KXPc

I echo President Oaks' praise of family -- such a sustaining and fulfilling aspect of my life. And I think most people would echo such praise in the abstract, even if many struggle with family in practice. Life can be hard. Family can make it more worth while. #GeneralConference

President Dallin H. Oaks: The perfection we seek is not limited to the stressful circumstances of mortality. Repentance and spiritual growth can continue in the spirit world that follows mortality (Doctrine and Covenants 138:57-59) #GeneralConference

Elder Renlund encourages us to approach God in the name of Christ, emulating Jesus, that we may be exalted as joint heirs in the glory of God with Jesus. This is the great mystery of which Paul speaks in the New Testament: Christ in you. #GeneralConference

Elder Renlund quotes the scriptural claim that salvation is "only in and through" Christ. But this doesn't exclude us -- our work and grace for each other. Remember that Jesus invites us to take on the name of Christ with him, helping him facilitate salvation. #GeneralConference

Elder Holland (the younger) tells the story of Jonah and Nineveh. I love this story, in particular, because it illustrates the function of prophecy, not as fortune telling but as forth telling. It's good when negative prophecies fail. That's their purpose. #GeneralConference

"Final judgment" is not a scriptural term. The scriptures speak of a judgment at "the last day" or "the last great day of judgment", but the idea of the judgment being a final one is not in the scriptures. #GeneralConference

I appreciate #ElderBednar's positive emphasis on joyful anticipation of encountering God. (But his scriptural example of "the pleasing bar of God" is probably a misprint, based on Royal Skousen's critical work on the Book of Mormon; most likely "pleading bar".) #GeneralConference

Would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them! #GeneralConference

Elder Johnson extols ministering, one on one. This can be hard work. It’s often easier to compose a social media message for many. But, useful as that may be, it can never be enough. It can never fully achieve that which intimate personalization can achieve. #GeneralConference

Elder Evanson encourages service, appealing to Jesus’ example and quoting him saying, “Go and do likewise.” The New Testaments says that Jesus consoled the sad, healed the sick, and raised the dead. Imagine that. What if we could do likewise? Shall we try? #GeneralConference

Elder Holland points out that the Church appears to be unique in its performance of vicarious rituals for the dead. This practice has important practical consequences, such as motivating an unparalleled magnitude of work on genealogy. #GeneralConference

Elder Cziesla tells the story of his father attending Church for the first time, and not being impressed until the congregation began singing hymns. I know the feeling. Hymns can sometimes save us from otherwise tedious meetings. Let's sing more. #GeneralConference

"It is precisely because we have been hurt, and have hurt others, that Jesus Christ brings us all to His inn. In His church, and His ordinances and covenants, we come to each other and Jesus Christ." @GerritWGong #GeneralConference

"Worry less, judge less, be less demanding of others, and, when needed, less hard on ourselves. We do not create Zion in a day, but each hello, each warm gesture, brings Zion closer." Thank you, Elder Gong. #GeneralConference

I am thoroughly enjoying the enthusiasm exuding from Elder Brown. His shrill voice and strong gestures stand out among the more reserved manner of expression that is traditional among general authorities of the Church. #GeneralConference

As another example, the Proclamation on the Family says that "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God." It doesn't say that God couldn't also ordain plural or gay marriage. #GeneralConference

Christopher Bradford reposteó

For example, the Proclamation on the Family says that "gender is an essential characteristic of ... eternal identity." It doesn't say eternity is static or final, as that would be contrary to the doctrine of eternity, which is as dynamic as life. #GeneralConference

Elder Uchtdorf observes that discipleship of Christ "is a gift, but receiving it is a conscious choice that requires a commitment of all our might, mind, and strength." Grace and work. It's always both. #GeneralConference

"You are a blessed being of light, a spirit child of God, with a potential beyond your ability to imagine. ... Your origin story is divine, and so is your destiny." Amen, Elder Uchtdorf. #GeneralConference
