Scientists just solved hair in computer graphics - not by simulating every strand, but by inventing a "hair mesh" blueprint that generates 100,000 strands on the fly. Runs at 500 FPS, needs only 18 KB per model. Hair everywhere - brilliant! Full video: youtu.be/WYTOxOhKl3Y

My humble RDNA 2 now seems at peace with high grass blade counts. There is more to be done to make the grass truly happy. More soon, friends.

While generating normals to give flat grass blades a curved look I realised I could remove the back face and its normals, letting the GPU breathe a little easier. I then draw them without culling and flip the front face normals to create the backface normals, keeping the…

Materials and skysphere are uncalibrated so things look shinier than they should, but notice the impact bent normals (instead of geometric) have when wired into IBL. If you are running GTAO, you get them almost for free. They add directionality that helps sell the scene.

We are still looking for someone with Switch experience to do porting and graphics optimization for Switch 2 as a contractor. Email the address below if you are interested and do not have a full-time job (most people who have mailed in are trying to do the 5 jobs thing. Sad.)
