Apple's new "Crush" ad (let's call it "2024") is a visual & metaphorical bookend to the 1984 ad. 1984: Monochome, conformist, industrial world exploded by colourful, vibrant human 2024: Colourful, vibrant humanity is crushed by monochrome, conformist industrial press

Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create.

Lockheed and Boeing got the UFO technology, fortunately the alien was free to go and build @SpaceX, @Tesla and @neuralink

If it turns out that Lockheed and Boeing have been in charge of the UFO reverse engineering program, I'll be so pissed

A metaphor for the UK.

The "Brand MVP" is a service I offer my clients at @buzzthetower_hq. It allows even the earliest stage startups to benefit from high-end brand strategy. In this article I outline how AI has made this possible and how this benefits startups. open.substack.com/pub/summaryjud…

Frightening. Removing the right to a family life (nobody could have a family before 1997) and the Modern Slavery Act (you could own Modern Slaves in 2014)

Some of the legal changes being proposed are truly frightening: Abolishing the right to a family life would ultimately affect many more people than asylum-seekers. Overriding it if the risks of violence are greater is a mob's charter. Watering down the Modern Slavery Act. Awful.

And yet your government increased employer taxes on pubs. I don't see you cutting any taxes. Now the publican pays 29p on a £5 pint which is more than double the 13p profit. Don't go blaming the Tories.

Average price of pint 2010 = £2.48 Average price of pint 2024 = £4.79 The Tory Beer premium = £2.31 Almost doubled the price. For all you do; the pint wasn’t for you under the @Conservatives

I don’t care who stops the boats and neither do the British people. I wish the Home Secretary well. But I’ve seen first hand others talk tough on illegal immigration without actually wanting to get anything done. One problem the Home Secretary has is an out of touch Labour…

🚨NEW: This morning, nine Labour MPs have publicly attacked Shabana Mahmood’s asylum proposals, while at least one minister is considering resignation [@christiancalgie]

Many cyclists responding to this with "But cyclists don't create wear and tear like cars". This argument holds up ok when you're not demanding exclusive use of the roads. When that happens things are different. All sorts of things are charged based on temporary exclusive use of…

If we do this, cyclists should be charged road tax the same as other vehicles.

Given the way Labour negotiated with Mauritius, is it any wonder that the EU is demanding that we pay for the right to keep defending it, pay for the right to let it fish our waters, pay for the right to educate its young people etc?

One of the bigger delusions of the Left is that individuals vote for parties based on immutable group identity rather than, say, group culture. It's another demonstration that, despite its insistence otherwise, the Left isn't empathetic, it is self-centred.

Hilariously this blatant attempt to corrupt the system by enfranchising children will blow up spectacularly in Labour’s face when they all vote Green and Reform.

There have been Budgets that blew up after launch. Some even blew up on the launchpad. But we've never had one that blew up before they'd even put the fuel in. Me for @thetimes on why we now look not just profligate, but gutless thetimes.com/comment/column…

I don’t understand why people continue investing in a company whose CEO is self-evidently delusional and whose plans for the business have no basis in reality. Are they stupid?

Tell me you don't understand the Laffer Curve without telling me you don't understand the Laffer Curve.

Another way of putting it, relevant ahead of the Budget: if the UK had grown at the same rate as the US since 2007, our annual tax revenue would be £150 billion higher today. That's enough to fill the Chancellor's current fiscal gap 5x over.

MoD has the second highest, despite all the cuts elsewhere. This explains a lot.

It's taken 18 months of PQs and FOI requests from me to drag out of the government the number of DEI staff each department employs. The MOD have 77, Health 55 etc. 510 in all and numbers are growing fast under Labour. Yet Reeves says there's no alternative to tax rises...
