#MattHowell finally concedes that the #tomago smelter is heading towards a renewable future: “our goal would be, by 2029, that the largest load in australia is, for all intents & purposes, 100% renewable.” could actually be done 5 years earlier. afr.com/policy/energy-… #auspol

what is inertia (in the grid)? Ben has clearly thought about how to explain this using high school physics as the deepest reference. Great stuff! as Bonus, a great compilation of Energy Minister Bowen’s statements to be referenced in 2030 and some 🐐

The Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev published the first widely recognised version of the periodic table in 1869 reflecting over 150 years of scientific development and understanding I bring you Kevin Rudd nothing like politics to set science back to populist twaddle

Australia equals the periodic table. Great to bring US and Australian mining industry partners together at the Embassy to discuss our $8.5 billion critical minerals deal.

being a renter in SA means you subsidize the wealthy to have cheap electricity

Maybe it's because I just got my latest South Australian power bill, but I don't think we should listen to opinions on energy affordability shared by people who never, ever have to worry about affording energy.

this is why political campaigns are so bad and why compulsory voting makes it worse they don’t even have to be good at it, people will just turn up Kos’s bubble

Running political campaigns isn’t for amateurs. The people who do it well aren’t just organisers, they’re part marketer, part data analyst, part social psychologist. But above all, they’ve usually been spawned by the political culture they’re trying to elect. Why? Because it…

The precautionary principle said: “Don’t give babies peanuts. It might cause allergies.” That advice? Dead wrong. And it caused a massive rise in peanut allergies. But then…scientists reversed course. And saved 40,000 kids from a lifetime of fear 🧵1/

CHART OF THE DAY: Global sources of electricity generation in 2024. Coal remains king, accounting to more than 1/3 of global power output last year. Renewable sources only match it if aggregating solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, firewood and others all together.

Some wild weather coming. A temperature peak almost at 40 degrees, but strong winds incoming this arvo, good chance of a storm... What does that mean for energy prices in NSW? Well the forecast has prices hitting the cap, $20k, around 2:30pm, well before peak demand. 1/

Here’s your regular reminder that comparing receipts from: - a tax (ie PRRT), with - government loan repayments (ie HECS) is as useful as comparing payroll tax receipts with repayments of the government loan NBN Co. The comparison is puerile Don’t fall for it like a fool.

Australians pay 4 times more in HECS repayments than the gas industry pays in Petroleum Resource Rent Tax! Australia Institute analysis shows replacing the broken PRRT with a flat 25% tax on gas exports, as suggested by the ACTU, would raise more than $17 billion a year. #auspol
