We used protein engineering to develop cocaine-gated ion channels. Our approach simplifies chemogenetic applications for cocaine addiction by having cocaine itself activate inhibitory and/or excitatory channels. Collaboration between @mikelides @BrainCaRMA rdcu.be/eCJK4
Thrilled to share that our latest research has been published in Nature Communications!! 🧠🔬(@NatureComms) We developed a multimodal AI framework that uses more accessible neurological assessments to predict an individual's PET scan profiles for Alzheimer's disease biomarkers…
Been doing workshops about Peer Community In @PeerCommunityIn / PCI Registered Reports @PCI_RegReports / PCI Psychology & associated Peer Community Journal @PeerComJournal for 3 years now. Most common concern: "PCJ has no impact factor"🤦 PCJ now has IF 2. A science revolution.
This is junk science that could be extremely harmful to vulnerable populations if ever deployed. AI facial analysis cannot infer latent psychological, personality, or behavioral features, and technology that pretends to have these capabilities is grossly unethical.

Although Atul was always at the cutting edge of science he had the presence and expansive outlook of the intellectual giants of the previous century. His integrative approach to biomedicine has inspired thousands. But first he loved his family and friends with an enthusiasm that…
Atul Butte died yesterday. The world lost a giant. A big bear of a man. With a huge smile. With love for everyone. With energy that could power a room. I loved everything about Atul. I loved how he was always happy. I loved how excited he was about science and helping people.
Heartbroken to share my mentor & friend Dr. Atul J. Butte @atulbutte has passed. He saw potential in me and turned it into opportunity-- for me, and so many others. We bonded over Star Trek and he was our Captain. Picard’s parting toast in his honor, final episode:…

I wrote an Op-Ed about the government's attacks on Harvard. Please share with anybody who thinks these attacks help anybody. prosyn.org/PhWi74r?h=KyJ1…
The war on science in the US is already affecting private sector research like AlphaFold. Bears repeating but the private sector builds on top of things created by academic research for the public good. This hurts everyone.
There's a lot going on in with transcriptome transformers, virtual cells, and perturbation prediction. I updated my recap:
Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard. hrvd.me/IntStudents25t
They must have cut that. Short answer is to bridge all the research that’s been cut, or even most of it, would require stealing gifts. Most of the endowment is gifts where people let Harvard spend the interest on a specific thing, they can’t just turn around and steal that money
Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab
It’s possible to both be proud of my institution for refusing to bend the knee and to be scared that this flagrantly un-American retaliation for disobedience will hurt the good people I have the privilege to discover science alongside
The 1.2.0 version of my #brms + #tidyverse translation of Kruschke’s "Doing Bayesian data analysis" is up! bookdown.org/content/3686/ 1/3 #rstats
The long awaited results of the @BrRepNetwork are in! Their final sample consists of 97 replications of 47 studies. The only coherent measure of replication, p<.05, shows a replication rate of 19%. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
