Imagine if we closed roads to cars & traffic congestion actually REDUCED as a result. Sounds counter-intuitive, yet it’s EXACTLY what research revealed in cities around the world, described as ‘traffic evaporation’ in a seminal UK study of 100 locations. rapidtransition.org/stories/reduci…

For opposing the Rijksmuseum’s plan to close this public passage in 2003, the Amsterdam Cyclists’ Union were called “bike terrorists” and “fundamentalists who let their own minor interests prevail over all forms of reasonableness.” We think they are on the right side of history.

Even as an advocate, the stats on health benefits impress me. Reading some endnotes: Econ analysis estimates that for every $1,300 NYC invested in bldg bike infra in 2015 "provided benefits equivalent to 1 add'l yr of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents."

Paris has transformed itself from a car city to a bike city. What can we learn from that transformation?
