Excellent workshop! I highly recommend to any educator.

The science of learning is absolutely fascinating to me. It’s no surprise that I continue to learn so much from this awesome scientist and educator. I’ll say it again- teachers, if you haven’t read #PowerfulTeaching from @PoojaAgarwal and @PatriceBain1 , do it now!

We just added another 29 new problems to the openmiddle.com website. You can see 10 of them in the "Recent Problems" section of the footer. Thank you to the entire volunteer @openmiddle team for working through these problems to get them on the website.
Branched out of my comfort zone and had a great time in #STEM land today. HUGE thanks to my friend @DrYemothy for this incredible workshop and for all you do to bring access to STEM learning to all. #DocYSTEM
Enjoying another day of conversation and learning with @k12mathliteracy. Math friends, check out the work they’re doing to help teachers build mathematical literacy in their classrooms. So good! #MTBoS #iteachmath
Congratulations to this sweet kiddo for winning an @AlgebraNationSC prize pack for her work helping students across the state on the Algebra Wall. Bonus fact: she’s the FIRST EVER winner at @PVMSPatriots and @ASD_1Excellence but won’t be the last! 👏🥳
One of the best tips I ever saw on #edutwitter: Reduce anxiety and boost math discussion by giving Ss time to see and talk about an assessment before taking it. No writing allowed. I learn from hearing them talk it out and it benefits them in many ways as well. Win-Win! #mtbos
Love to use this @openmiddle problem to emphasize the concept of special case equations in pre-algebra. So fun to see and hear their thinking and how many different answers they find. As always, my favorite part is the discussion that arises! #iteachmath #mtbos
I will never make a poster as good as this one
Touchy subject, but an important one. Good read.

LEGO has officially revealed their ‘THE OFFICE’ set. It will cost $120 and release on October 1.
“An experience in and of itself is not learning. It just happens to you.” Great reminder from Dr. Robinson @k12mathliteracy that we need to emphasize the learning (the “so what?”) that results from classroom experiences rather than just letting them happen to students.
I’ve spied several #PowerfulTeaching strategies like this in this week’s fun and informative PD from @k12mathliteracy ! @PoojaAgarwal and @PatriceBain1 your influence is everywhere! 🥳
A cool, provocative study. "Teachers who are effective at improving students’ math achievement, on average, are much less successful at engaging students in class (and vice versa)."

I have people in my DMs concerned that @Desmos is helping students learn tricks to pass their state's end-of-course exams. I spent some time looking at their concerns, and the exams, in my latest newsletter. danmeyer.substack.com/p/are-we-teach…
I also tried this after I saw @TimBrzezinski post about it. Such a shift in the energy during the assessment and I learned a lot from listening to them engage in conversation.
IB Math students were given 5 minutes before the start of today’s exam to discuss the exam questions. No pencils, no calculators, no phones allowed…just pure mathematical dialogue. #iteachmath Idea from: @howie_hua
