Happy to announce that I will start my assistant professor position at @UCLA this fall! My lab will work on internal sensations, with a unique focus on nausea mechanisms: chuchuzhanglab.com. Please RT and encourage people interested in postdoc positions to apply!
Yesterday was one of those days that one kid sick for school, one kid sick for daycare, still had to drop off and pick up the not sick one at daycare, husband out for a week for travel, while I rush to make two grant deadlines….🫠🫠🫠
📢📢My Lab @VanderbiltU is looking for a motivated postdoc to join us in studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms of somatosensation development! Please help us spread the word by retweeting!

Absolutely thrilled to be awarded the Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation grant to support our research! Looking forward to sharing our findings that may ultimately improve human health.
Thanks for the invitation to review this topic - sensory signals of nausea - a collaborative effort by lab members! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Our department @UTSW_Psychiatry is hiring TT faculty! Our Neuroscience Research Division has diverse research programs, from genes to neural circuits to human brain imaging. @UTSWMedCenter has a vibrant/growing neuroscience community @UTSWBrain nature.com/naturecareers/…
It was such a memorable symposium! And thanks to amazing host!
A fantastic day at the SNU Neuro-Chemical-Metabolism Symposium!🧠 Brilliant talks on body–brain communication, metabolism & circuits—thanks to our speakers, students & colleagues for making it a success! #Neuroscience #Metabolism #BrainBody

New paper from the lab with @andrewlutas. Work of the amazing Claire Gao. Important read exploring mechanistic insights as to why semaglutide may work better for some versus others. Building on all the amazing research that has been done over the years. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Hot ones spicy level competition in the lab. Thanks to Ashley! We documented interoceptive sensations in our gut as spice level increases. The winners, no genotyping for a month.

Grateful for the opportunity @Hypothesisfund !
5/5 Awardee @zhang_chuchu explores how different body states (like pregnancy) may change what neurons sense & how they respond. Her work may lead to new ways to address nausea associated w/ pregnancy🤰, chemo, & infections. 🍾Congrats Dr. Zhang! @dgsomucla 🙏 #HFScout @pipethero

I wrote an Op-Ed about the government's attacks on Harvard. Please share with anybody who thinks these attacks help anybody. prosyn.org/PhWi74r?h=KyJ1…
New paper from the lab: Our teeth arose as sensory organs on the outside of the body of ancient jawless fish.!! Congrats to Yara Haridy and the team! Open Access Paper: nature.com/articles/s4158… News and Views: nature.com/articles/d4158… Background and video: phys.org/news/2025-05-t…
I find it amusing that these days the whole lab just leave in front of me to lunch without asking - I’m definitely the boss outsider now.
Thrilled for the Zhang Lab to receive the Whitehall Foundation grant to investigate the neural mechanisms of nausea!

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology. Lately, I’ve focused on…

A powerful and personal editorial from Nobel laureate @ardemp: "I owe America my success. Today, its scientific future is in danger." Please read and share. cnn.com/2025/04/09/hea…
Basic science is inspired by curiosity, accountable to evidence, and subject to peer review. Politics should have no role.
R01 resubmission was a waste. 3 years of work. 12 percentile on first submission and now it will not get reviewed. Trying to keep chin up and move forward is daunting. This storm is perfect to wipe out early stage investigators.
Pitt to pause PhD admissions, following Vanderbilt and USC, because of uncertainty of NIH funding to academic universities. Who will teach and train US scientists for pharma and biotech? Should we import them from countries that do? wesa.fm/health-science…
Very honored to be selected as a Sloan Fellow. Grateful for my mentors, colleagues, and my lab.
🎉Congrats to the 126 early-career scientists who have been awarded a Sloan Research Fellowship this year! These exceptional scholars are drawn from 51 institutions across the US and Canada, and represent the next generation of groundbreaking researchers. sloan.org/fellowships/20…
