Had to visit the sailboat tonight - was covered in a layer of snow and ice, and fairly large (~5 mm) graupel was coming down. Some of it was conical. Classic early-season lake effect! #microphysics :-)

Lovely visualisation of atmospheric convection on my garden fence this morning. The ice on the fence sublimates due to heating from the sun, and re-condenses to form a cloud that we can see #convection #microphysics #clouds
