In many cases, Liberal Democrats running local councils have been stepping up to the challenge of fixing the housing crisis but all too often, particularly where we have a small, opposition council group, our default response to housebuilding is NIMBYism. We want to change that.
Embarrassing from Labour's Croydon mayoral candidate. In mayoral elections, voters get a 1st and 2nd choice - we would urge all Lib Dems in Croydon to avoid giving Labour your second preference vote. Until Labour take the housing crisis seriously, they don't deserve our votes.
The Young Liberals stand by established party policy that we need to radically increase housebuilding to a target of 380k homes per year in order to meet the housing needs of this generation and the next. Anything less would be a shameful failure of our young people.
Lib Dems stop crying about housebuilding, I beg. Build 👏 more 👏 houses 👏
No weight should be given to protecting the Green Belt when house prices in the South East are as out-of-control as they currently are. Very disappointing from a Lib Dem MP, especially when our party is committed to a policy of building 380,000 new homes per year.
We desperately need a new movement of Lib Dem candidates, councillors and Parliamentarians who are unequivocally committed to building housing of all kinds and in all locations as a matter of urgency. It's either that or generations are locked out of home ownership forever.
The deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, a party which advocates a major increase in house building to 380k a year, should not be standing in parliament calling for a halving of housebuilding in their area. If you take on such a role you should be standing up for party policy
We could HALVE housing numbers in #StAlbans & reduce impact on #GreenBelt if Govt allowed us to use up-to-date data to determine housing numbers. I've spent *4 months* trying to get straight answers as to why they won’t let us. I brought it up in Parliament again last week 👇
The scale of the housing need in Surrey is massive - disappointing to see prominent Lib Dems failing to even acknowledge the housing crisis while arguing for less house building.
We’re pushing back on Govt ‘eye-watering’ housing targets w local plan which protects GreenBelt from the Conservatives. It’s a test case for a local Council against Govt. Let’s see if our MP @DominicRaab will get behind us & Residents Assoc plan. bbc.com/news/uk-englan…

Sir Ed Davey criticises 'eye-watering' Surrey housing targets
Surrey's housing targets are "forcing councils" to build on green belt land, Sir Ed Davey says.
We’ve got a lot to talk about with MPs in parliament today. But there’s one main message ⬇️ 🚫End the housing emergency
Did you know since Labour took control of Southwark Council the number of empty Council homes has increased by 62%? 1 in every 8 empty council homes in London is now in #Southwark SCANDALOUS when thousands on Waiting List. We need a @swklibdems Council that will do better!
Brilliant news from Kingston - congratulations to Cllr. @SamF_H and all those who worked on getting this project approved. constructionenquirer.com/2022/01/05/485…

£485m London estate rebuild approved
Summer start for first 10 blocks in 2200-home Kingston estate rebuild
A modern development, in an extremely well connected central location (its literally right next to Waterloo Station) that will create hundreds of jobs. Sounds good to us! Click through the link in the tweet below to lodge your support.
TOO BIG! TOO MUCH! Coin Street wants to stop the planning application for this monstrosity on South Bank. You can get your voice heard by letting Lambeth Council know you oppose this massive office block on the riverside. Deadline: 14 Jan 2022. Do it now! coinstreet.org/latest/too-big…
A great example of a Lib Dem led council listening to local residents and getting much needed new homes built. Well done too Cllr. @SamF_H and all those who worked on this project!
Excited for hundreds of new social and affordable homes to be built in Kingston. Hope councillors on the planning committee respect the residents' overwhelming verdict in favour of these plans and vote to approve the planning application.
Affordable house prices?
Changing Rooms is on TV. Steps are touring. And Tory sleaze is back. What else would you revive from the 1990s?
Great resource here focusing on the acute housing challenge in London. The chart benchmarking the increase in homes to the increase in jobs and population is particularly useful.
Out today! The GLA has published its 2021 Housing in London report, with over 100 pages of charts, maps and facts on London’s housing crisis. The report and tables are available here data.london.gov.uk/dataset/housin… Some highlights to follow …
The house price surges referred to in this tweet is actually the reason that right now is a great time to be a homeowner. What it's not a great time to be is a renter as millions are locked out of the dream of homeownership.
Congratulations to everyone who won their positions in the @YoungLiberalsUK elections today and commiserations to those that missed out. Young people are the future of our party and it's so important their voices are listened too on the issue of the housing crisis.
Today in parliament, Anthony Browne was once again criticising plans to build much needed homes - chastising them as a "building bonanza". We think it's great that Lib Dem-run councils in Cambridgeshire are stepping up to the plate and taking action on the housing crisis.
Thanks Anthony Browne for highlighting the excellent work @SCLibDems is doing in providing new housing, doing their bit to fix the housing crisis and providing more opportunities for people to settle down. Keep up the good work!
Conservatives can't have it all. On the one hand, Conservatives have said we should minimise development on greenfield land yet here a prominent Conservative AM is saying we shouldn't be building denser developments based around tall buildings - housing needs to go somewhere!
Tower Blocks are not the answer to London's housing problems. london.gov.uk/about-us/londo…
London is a global city - we should be welcoming people who want to live in Acton, not turning them away.
Excellent sleuthing @SeanFletcherTV and others for discovering the 900+ homes to appear on the Friary Park foorprint near to-be @Crossrail station will not actually be for locals despite promises What about the 10,000 on @ealingcouncul housing waiting list?
