What should we do about high skilled immigration and why? This is the topic of my huge new report with @LettieriDC and @cojobrien: Exceptional by Design. Quick thread on why I think you should read this report. eig.org/exceptional-by…
Should’ve worried more about being deceived by Maoists
It is always worth studying economics or history just to know when certain people are deceiving you.
First dovish regional fed president
Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson (2026 voter) says she supported cutting rates at the last two meetings and remains "a little more worried about the labor market" than inflation. philadelphiafed.org/the-economy/mo… She notes that almost all job growth through September has been…
It’s the hyper-online anti-skilled immigration pundits who don’t get it. Trump voters widely agree with him that skilled immigration is good for America and Americans. The winning strategy here is to fix H-1B to end IT outsourcer abuse and put top talent in front of the line.
The Trump administration is divided on H-1B. Unfortunately, it appears the president himself comes down on the pro-H-1B side. Embracing H-1B will depress the base and lead to a massive midterm wipeout. I hope the president will come around to doing the right thing.
The “booming sector” of data centers is not going to be very responsive to rate cuts. The weaker sectors, like housing and consumer spending, will. So the normal risk of adding to an overheat are very mitigated
Imagine moving next door to a winery that has been opened for 15 years and forcing them to close through the power of NIMBYism. Bad people wgal.com/article/moon-d…
Speaking in favor of H-1B Visas at today’s U.S-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, President Donald J. Trump said: “You can't come in, open a massive computer chip factory for billions and billions of dollars like is being done in Arizona, and think you're gonna hire people off…
I am unreasonably excited about self-driving. It will be the first technology in many decades to visibly terraform outdoor physical spaces and way of life. Less parked cars. Less parking lots. Much greater safety for people in and out of cars. Less noise pollution. More space…
News: Waymo just announce driverless testing in Miami, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Meanwhile, legal barriers are preventing expansion to Boston, NYC, or Washington DC. Is this the future Democrats want?
“Mirror organisms” is comic book shit
On the ground investigating the truth about what happened to the humans in Cars
Also, why do people go to restaurants when high quality prepared food is widely available in supermarkets?
The job of piano player was essentially automated 129 years ago. And yet, I heard a man playing piano in a hotel lobby today for pay. What does this tell us about AI?

Several thoughts on that piece by @nealemahoney & @BharatRamamurti in @nytopinion.
I have great respect for @nealemahoney & @BharatRamamurti, but I just about pulled my hair out reading their op-ed this morning. Price controls aren't going to be "a way out" unless their advocates can credibly commit not to apply them to today's projects tomorrow. 🧵/12
Charge for entry or charge for beer? Sounds like Walter Oi’s Disneyland dilemma, two part tariffs. jstor.org/stable/1881841 You would claim the price of the two are set independently
The guys who spent yesterday urgently demanding price controls on beer at baseball games
Tell me more about the national emergency that required a 39% tariff on Switzerland up until this weekend.
Forget retaliation: To cut tariffs President Trump imposed on their country, the Swiss sent a delegation of industry tycoons bearing gifts — a special Rolex desktop clock, a 1-kilogram personalized gold bar, and loads of flattery. axios.com/2025/11/14/tru…
It’s darkly comic that as Democrats have become the party of “the experts,” basic economic knowledge has become lost in favor of just-so stories from random lawyers.
