This is true - GitHub’s reputation seems to be slowly but surely 📉 Just 4 years ago they were years ahead of anyone with Copilot (Cursor would launch 2 years after GH Copilot beta) Today, as competitors zoom past GH + Copilot, GitHub busy pissing off devs. For what?
I think in a moment when GitHub’s reputation amongst developers is at an all time low, making the policy change to charge for self hosted runners in any scenario instead of making other technical changes to make GH runners more attractive will go down as a very bad move.
Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices.

1000%. The funniest thing about the Hadoop era is that it started with "relational databases can't handle our scale" and culminated in "you know what would be a great idea? tables" (i.e., Iceberg + Delta Lake)
Anyone notice X is forcing you onto For You instead of Following?
Merriam-Webster’s human editors have chosen ‘slop’ as the 2025 Word of the Year.
Unpopular opinion: Current code review tools just don’t make much sense for AI-generated code When reviewing code I really want to know: - The prompt made by the dev - What corrections the other dev made to the code - Clear marking of code AI-generated not changed by a human

Anyway a free report that is better than what Gartner and similar ones sell - showing tools devs use in bulk Most better companies evaluate AI tools themselves btw and choose ones devs actually use and find helpful. Just saying newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/the-pragmati…
This is so embarrassing
Gartner's business model crumbling: Anthropic and Claude are not on any Gartner list of AI coding assistants (Anthropic doesn't pay Gartner) and Cursor is downranked bad (they also don't pay Gartner) Yet large enterprises buy Cursor and Anthropic+Claude because they are GOOD
I've forgotten so much about how to be a DBA

I love Substack. Always have. Their team is great. But a silent change could force me off the platform if it stays. They broke email. My paid subscribers cannot read today's paid newsletter on mobile without downloading the Substack app. @SubstackInc: roll this back. Now.
The moment Anthropic releases a visual Skill Builder UI (like a Zapier for AI skills), adoption will hockey stick
