My latest in @nytimes about the likelihood of multiple new wars breaking out across the Horn of Africa at the same time that the Trump Administration is dismantling America's expertise and institutions that have enabled its previous peacemaking there.@csis nytimes.com/2025/05/09/opi…

The fact that the Quad cannot agree on a statement condemning RSF attacks on children, eldery, mosques, hospitals, time and again, shows how fundamentally far apart they and how far they are from enforcing any kind of ceasefire. egypttoday.com/Article/1/1428…

When you intentionally kill 14 women, 15 children and 18 elderly in a shelter for displaced, the same week you bomb a hospital and a mosque, that makes you a terrorist group. It doesnt matter if you declare yourself a government. You're just terrorists. nytimes.com/2025/10/11/wor…

It is hard not to agree with this statement from Sudan's Foreign Ministry. Whatever one thinks of this war, the UN is criminally absent while RSF atrocities against civilians continue to mount with no end in sight. Despicable.

At least he called out the RSF this time. Maybe also learning that you shouldn't announce that humanitarian access has been granted until it can be verified. Sadly, this job doesn't allow for a lot of 'on the job training.'

I condemn the reported RSF attack on besieged El Fasher's last remaining hospital and nearby mosque in North Darfur, Sudan, which killed and injured civilians, including doctors and nurses, in an area where humanitarian access is still denied. There is no excuse for targeting…

This ERR volunteer, who cant use her full name for fear of arrest, reinforces one point I have heard from the Norwegians about why they again didn't win the Nobel. They dont want to endanger anyone in the group and they need a spokesperson to accept it. npr.org/sections/goats…

In 20+ years

Yes, Kushayb was convicted, but what about the crimes of the Rapid Support Forces and their supporters? When will they be brought to the International Criminal Court?

No crude oil exports from South Sudan via Sudan have been offloaded in their main refinery in UAE since July, such is the state of the trade embargo on Sudan. Interesting that gold continues make its way to Dubai. ft.com/content/b97e40…

Fascinating interview with RSF humanitarian affairs "minister" who claims US/UN were never given approval to distribute aid to El Fasher, despite their claims. Article argues that US-led Quad effort to achieve ceasefire has all but collapsed. Sounds right. ft.com/content/af859c…

The fact is that legal scholars see the ICC conviction of Ali Kushayb as a victory for international justice first, the ICC second, and the Sudanese third. I would like to hear from the Darfuris currently in El Fasher how it feels to have justice served... theconversation.com/a-landmark-con…

I am skeptical of these allegations based on Iran's capabilities, but the fact is that these stories are not going away and are only proliferating. They have a way of becoming true even if they arent and its not enough for Port Sudan to just say its fake news or to ignore them.

"Sudan has become a node in Iran’s regional network from Yemen to Lebanon. For the Houthis, it is a logistical haven and a launchpad for expansion. For Tehran, it offers leverage against KSA, Egypt and Israel, and a means to deepen its reach into Africa." alhurra.com/en/5422

Chad, EU strengthen partnership. I wonder if this new partnership comes with a special program on anti-migrant intervention? apanews.net/chad-eu-streng…

TikTok is becoming Africa’s newsroom. Excellent look at the causes and consequences of how disinformation is rampant on the platform and what governments in Africa are doing about it. blogs.lse.ac.uk/africaatlse/20…

"Without sufficient guarantees and credible enforcement mechanisms for any step by step agreements, the Quad roadmap risks being another lost opportunity for Sudan and the international community." internationalaffairs.org.au/australianoutl…

Videos show SAF's use of chlorine gas as a weapon. Interesting to note that the corroboration of these reported chemical weapons attacks come from social media posts that were made at the time of the attack 1 yr ago. Why are we just seeing this now? france24.com/en/africa/2025…

So on the same day the RSF bombs another mosque in El Fasher, it also directly strikes one of the few remaining hospitals in north Darfur, killing another 8 civilians in the maternity ward. Their second attack on a hospital in 2 days. No words. aljazeera.com/news/2025/10/8…

I had to read this headline twice. Didn't the RSF already attack a mosque? Yet another attack? Looking forward to the western statements condemning that another mosque was struck by a nameless/faceless force. trtworld.com/article/c41c38…

South Sudan president fires military chief after three months, reinstates predecessor. Ah yes, Chapter 3 of the dictator's playbook. Musical chairs of senior military officials. reuters.com/business/media…
