Today I met with PM @narendramodi to discuss Anthropic's expansion to India—where Claude Code use is up 5× since June. How India deploys AI across critical sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture for over a billion people will be essential in shaping the future of AI.

I will get mocked for saying but developing countries can learn far more from India’s development than it can from Poland’s development. India has to deal with challenging conditions that post-communist Poland has never had to face so it’s more relevant to developing countries.
The fact that India has never had a civil war or a military coup since its independence is as impressive as China’s economic development since the 1980s. No one else in South Asia managed to do that, and India has tons of fault lines that could have developed in that direction.

When Dubai built Jebel Ali, many thought it madness. Now it anchors the Gulf economy. India’s Nicobar project may not be as momentous, but it's a bold move and part of a potential maritime focus in which Delhi’s bureaucracy lets Indian entrepreneurship take India forward.

Funny how a "crony capitalist" party built public transport infrastructure that is being used by billionaires and government school students alike while the socialist elites opposed it.

In retrospect, it was understandable why we took a shot at the time during the optimistic 1990s but it then took far too long to admit it failed. Today we are suffering the consequences - the weaponization of interdependence will only get worse if we don’t act decisively.
🧵Happy 25th Anniversary of granting permanent normal trade relations to China, for those few who still celebrate! Today I'm counting down 10 classic examples of the failed consensus that led us off the cliff (h/t @AmerCompass Wrong All Along project).
