in my experience, most entrepreneurs and innovators just fucking get on with it - they certainly don’t react to having to pay a few percentage points more in tax by saying “i’m staying in bed” or “i’m going to live in another country”

genuinely scan read this as “why C3PO matters”

This is why COP30 matters.

re-upping this in the context of pearl-clutching around paying more tax in the UK look at how low the UK is on the y-axis (tax/GDP) and => how fiscally unsustainable our spend/GDP comparison with other countries show that if you want nice(r) things, you have to pay for them 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yesterday, we were back at the court of Session to hear that @theSNP @scotgov were determined to "adhere" & "continue to adhere" to the Prison Guidance which allows violent men to be placed in the female estate. 1/4 thetimes.com/uk/scotland/ar…

“a victory for Scotland?” turns my stomach the way nationalists instinctively claim patriotic superiority - think how we’d react if a Reform by-election victory was trumpeted as “a victory for Britain” - nationalism is rotting our politics

John Swinney cheerleading for income tax rises before the general election. Remember this when the SNP complains about Rachel Reeves’ budget later this month.

farcical indeed

1/ Farcical. Scot Gov publishes an independence paper which says: “offshore and onshore wind farms can currently provide electricity at a lower cost than gas power plants” So… I asked Scot Gov to identify those wind farms. Obviously it can’t, because the claim is not true.

There has been a lot of discussion on here recently about the state pension in the event of Scotland leaving the U.K. I honestly find it amazing how many nationalists seem totally unaware of the position of the Scottish Govt in this respect. This document is only a month old.

i’ve just noticed his quotation marks around “Secretary of State” - what’s that all about?

SNP MP here, baffled by the idea that the Secretary of State is on top of his brief and well prepared 🤦🏻‍♂️

Repost di Kevin Hague

Secretary of State for Scotland @D_G_Alexander lists contact the Home Office had with the Scottish gov and Highland Council about plans for Cameron Barracks. It's important that we deal with facts on this issue. Suggestions that there was no discussions about this are untrue.

Repost di Kevin Hague

the whole “this could cost Scotland” framing is wrong imho (and plays to Scottish Nationalists’ grievance narrative) - if Scotland doesn’t follow the rest of the UK on tax *of course* there are spending implications - just think it through!

Maybe I'm unfairly suspicious of the "Secretary of State" for Scotland...🤔
