Southern BC getting is plume on this afternoon. Lots of active fire and plume development, including a healthy dose of deep/towering #pyroCu. #CanadianWildfires


#GarnetFire yielding deepening #pyroCu and edging toward #pyroCb. Its updraft also appears to be perturbing the upper level flow with a persistent cloud lens forming aloft, which is then perforated by the plume at the end of the loop.

There is a decent chance the #GarnetFire will produce a #pyroCb today. The well-established fire burning in forest fuels has been active through the night, is already producing a modest plume and #pyroCu, and there is an influx of mid-level moisture. The "inverted-V" profile (

Deep pyroconvection (#pyroCb/#pyroCu) occurring over northern Alberta this afternoon.


Another day of active fire growth in #Idaho linked to the increasing southerly flow preceding a trough moving into Oregon and Northern California. Some "filthy" looking #pyroCu.

As expected, the #ShellyFire is producing deep #pyroCu, with #pyroCb possible in the next hour.

Will be interesting to see if the #ShellyFire (top of image in the #klamathNF) wakes up enough today to trigger deeper #pyroCu/#pyroCb. #PyroCb often occur with these monsoonal (or monsoon adjacent) moisture surges overspreading existing fires.

The upper level low working across northern AB is creating conditions conducive to #pyroCb (destabilized atmosphere, moisture source, wind). Note the fire in the lower right quadrant producing towering #pyroCu.


Cranking up now, with deeper and more widespread #pyroCu likely to transition to #pyroCb. I think this is the #FallsFire

Hey Alberta! #ABWildfire BC is getting hot weather this weekend, so keep your radars updated for thunderstorms and/or #pyroCu #Pyrocumulus #wildfire starts and follow @AB_EmergAlert Pyrocumulus clouds can create lightening strikes over 500kms away from the source fire!!


When it comes to #bcwildfire #wildfire, we use a 30/30/30 rule. It is in kilometers & celcius, but anything above 30 celcius & 30 km winds with less than 30% humidity can increase fire activity so much it can create it own thundstorms starting more fires #pyroCu #Pyrocumulus

I just noticed the weather pattern past the northeast part of the #rockymountains doing the counterclockwise rotation. Hopefully these #PyroCu storms generated by the #jasper #Wildfire die out quickly or these clouds produce more rain because otherwise this will go bad to worse


That's a normal forest fire height and they can be many kms wide, depending on fuels and terrain. Fires produce their own weather when they get big. It's called Pyrocumulus. #PyroCu #Pyrocumulus

Here is a radar derived 3D plume visualization for the #CarrFire last night. The black line shows the vortex center from the surface to deep aloft in the #PyroCu #PyroCb. The vortex is nearly upright and extends to 5+ km. Starting to look kinda tornadic. #CAwx #CAfire

As the #CZULightningComplex #fire has grown so large tonight, the heating source is broad & warm enough to trigger some vertically deep #PyroCu. Cloud top temps briefly cooled down to near -20C as clouds grew above the fire.

Absolutely terrifying to watch how rapidly the smoke plume of the #CZULightningComplex has grown the last few hours to the NW of #SantaCruz. Also note embedded mesoscale velocity couplets forming as fire grows vertically. Dangerous situation near Boulder Creek. #CAwx #CAfires

Deepening #PyroCu on the #CalfCanyonFire's plume as the upper level moisture stream encroaches. Will be "interesting" to see what happens in the next 1-2 hrs. #PyroCb possible? Tough to say but warrants keeping an eye on it:


Don't even know what fire this is, but looks like #pyroCb could be evolving. So far #HogFire, which is further south is holding with deep #pyroCu, not #pyroCb (could change). #CAfire #CAwx

#FairviewFire pyrocumulus iced out at 10am. Going to be a long fire day. Studied fire history maps of fuel in front of blaze, either *NO* recorded fire history or last fire in 1920s. So expect extreme fire behavior today with a south-ish facing continuous hillside fuel bed.
