Speed calculations Monday after mid term are not as bad when there’s a practical element thrown in too #jcscience

Quick and easy activity at the beginning of topic rates of reactions today. Students investigated physical and chemical changes. They concluded on whiteboards the definition for each in their own words and listed keywords for observing signs of a chemical reaction. #jcscience

Great task from @ITeachBoys92 for first year science today. Love how these hexagons are accessible to all levels of students. Everyone went home with a sense of achievement, not bad for a Friday afternoon :) #jcscience #mixedability

How amazing are these 3D Cell Models by our First Years @abbeytipp? Looking forward to displaying them proudly at Open Night next week 😁 #JCScience

Lovely experiment I do with 1st years when introducing the scientific method. I like to spend time at the headings and structure of the first few experiments so students know the standard that is expected when writing up experiments. #jcscience #scientifcmethod #mragscience

Stumbled across some unreal resources for teaching forces this week. Helped clear up some misconceptions and created some nice class discussions stem.org.uk/secondary/reso… #jcscience

Using a long car journey today to come up with some experiments my First year Science can do at home. Any other suggestions? #jcscience #STEAM #handsonscience #arewedoinganexperimenttoday #homeschooling

Burning iron filings to produce iron oxide makes a pretty sparkle! #JCScience #Bunsen #Sparkles #ScienceExperiment #LabTime

This is a peltier module. The temperature difference between the ice on top and the candle flame underneath generates enough current to light an LED. Application of Physics #jcscience #PW4

Laying down a nice foundation in first year for LCchemistry! Can you tell I got an A in junior cert art? First years are refusing to believe it 😂🙈🤭😀#chemistry #JCscience

Teaching energy flow through food chains to junior science. Showed the energy flow using demo which started with 100ml of water (energy) and each time only 10% was passed on so 10ml to rabbit and then 1ml to fox 🐰🦊 #jcscience

Building models of the tissues in plant stems today using bubblewrap and straws #STEAM #lcbiology #jcscience #dicotstem

Looking at factors that affect human health with first years. Finished off with a stations activity completed in groups of 5 that I was given from another teacher. Students had to read through a total of 6 scenarios and answer the worksheet in groups. Enjoyed by all #jcscience

2nd year Science Students carrying out a quantitative survey of plants in the school field today #jcscience

Today students investigated how the surface of the ramp affects the distance travelled by the car when learning about friction. I opted for surfaces that were easy to pick up in mr price - bubble wrap, crepe paper & tin foil #jcscience #forces

Loads of great discussions at this evening's webinar based on antimicrobial resistance💊. Plenty of interesting talking points that I will bring to my lessons when teaching microbiology. @JCTSteAm @JctScience #jcscience #edchatie

It is that time of year again! Teaching the benefits of amniotic fluid using an egg and a lunch box. First fill it with water and shake. The egg won’t crack showing protection & shock absorber. Then pour out the water and show the difference without the amniotic fluid #jcscience

Finally done! Science folks, this Google sheet has 300 of the most popular Crash Course Science videos all organized nicely for you 😀 AND for every single video, there's a premade quiz, worksheet, and interactive video 😎 docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d… I hope this is as helpful as I…
#Ecology never felt so fun 🥼🪲🌱 2nd years getting to enjoy the 🌞 while out working on their ecology experiment for Science 👩🏽🔬 #JCScience

Finishing up BW LO 4 with first years. Using a gallery wall of their own work to reflect on their learning over the past few weeks. #JCScience #STEAMeducation @CTCSTEAM

Working on sustainability with 3rd years and focusing on UN Developmental Goal 11. Students had to create their own sustainable city. I added in extra detail of a budget and assigned roles to each student. Great hands on activity #jcscience #Sustainability #UNSDG

Revisiting electricity and simple electronics this week. Comparing current and voltage in series and parallel circuits #PW2 #PW5 #JcScience

Investigating the forces generated by a mousetrap catapults. Good practice on data collection and graphing skills. #JCScience #PW3

12 weeks of school left for the 3rd years so we're going to spend 3 weeks on each of the 4 strands hoping to jog a few memories. Starting with physics this week. #JCScience ⬇️
Science in action in @CMCOscience in @colmhuirecoed! 🔬✨ 2nd years investigate solubility and grow stunning copper sulfate crystals, examining their formation up close 🧪👩🔬🧑🏻🔬👏🏻#rathassaothar #jcscience #etbexcellenceineducation #celebratingstudentwork @TipperaryETB @oide_Ireland
Venus visible this evening just above the moon. Nice to see the two of them in such clear skies #venus #astronomy #jcscience

Students using the 'Moon Hat' today to model the different phases of the lunar cycle. #jcscience #ES4

A bit of a messy one but a crowd pleaser nonetheless! Really great class modelling the phases of the moon with 2nd years. #Moon #STEAM #JCScience

Ever wondered how Lego can help with building materials on other planets? Check out these lego bricks made from meteorite dust! #JCScience
We've been exploring how a future Moon base might be built from materials on the lunar surface. Inspired by @LEGO_Group, we used dust from a meteorite to 3D-print 'space bricks' to test these ideas.
Comet A3 has been the brightest comet in the sky since Hale-Bopp in 1997. Irish photographer Colin Rodgers captured this amazing shot from the Curragh on Thursday Oct 17th during its more visible time in the sky. A3 even has an anti-tail which reveals its past path! #JCScience

3rd year science were busy investigating the chemical reaction between an acid and a carbonate to produce CO2 gas. They were also investigating the factors that affect the rate of a reaction @colmhuirecoed @JctScience #JCscience #chemistry #cmcoagobair

Tonnes of bacterial and fungal growth over our long weekend as part of our 2nd year science investigations. We have concluded the inside of a students shoe had the most microbial growth - why? Moisture and warmth 👩🏼🔬 #jcscience

Great work done with 1st years today showing off their understanding of creating a good hypothesis and testing variables in experiments. Nice and easy set up too 🙌 #jcscience

Love this poster from @JctScience to help students develop their own scientific questions. #jcscience

Thanks @Mikekav66 for the idea of making acid-base indicators from flower petals. Tried it with 3rd year Science for revision of pH, indicators and separation techniques. Great activity! #jcscience

Nice activity investigating the effect of carbon and The Greenhouse Effect on Climate Change with 3rd year Science today from @Esero_ie 🌎☀️🌡 Link here: esero.ie/junior-cycle/e… Inspired by @Chaz30538440 we used Vitamin C tablets to add the carbonation instead. #jcscience
