After fixing some persistence bugs, the new Bloxel engine is looking stable. People are gradually populating the new world with builds. They built this around the spawn point #voxelart #voxelgamedev
I made a system to randomly place "rasterize-able" objects, like trees. LoDs are easy - just rasterize at a lower resolution! Trees sample a cone SDF to decide whether to place leaves. #voxelgamedev
I'll get things started with another screenshot from Cubiquity 2. This scene was voxelized using 'Generalized Winding Numbers' extended to support multiple materials. It's not pretty (yet) but is over 2048^3 voxels and only 181Kb thanks to a Sparse Voxel DAG. #voxelgamedev

now all children of the root octree node get subdivided recursively to voxel level / now time to group nodes containing voxels of same type. #gamedev #voxelgamedev
Fixed my hacky transparency a bit. Fixed the blending math, and it now skips identical colors during raycasting, so it should be perfect for materials like glass. Making the entire map transparent is just for testing and naturally exhibits artifacts :) #voxels #voxelgamedev
Working on improving load times - replace some span checks w/ bitmaps. - parallelized parts of loading - reduced AO/normal calc radius, w/ quality tweaks - map lighting doesn't block loading (+lighting responds to map edits) Down from 600+ms to ~100-300ms. #voxel #voxelgamedev

I give you dual marching cubes applied in a linear fashion! Super easy to implement, guaranteed to be manifold (ignoring topological ambiguity cases), allows for vertex snapping and allows chunks to be processed independently. #voxels #voxelgamedev #IndieGameDev #gamedev
